THE HEALTH CLINIC

There are various reasons why it was necessary for us to set up a health clinic in the village: the level of care in the local hospitals is not always what we would like it to be, when sick children are taken to hospital they have to face a long trip (Chogoria is 50 km away) and they have to stay there on their own, in an unfamiliar environment.

The recently acquired land on which the clinic now stands is adjacent to the village. Work started in February 2011 and is developing very slowly, with an African tempo... but we really hope it all will be completed by the summer of 2012.

The clinic will provide medical care for various ailments, the possibility of testing for some of the main infectious diseases (TBC, HIV, malaria) and the distribution and administration of medicines to the children.

The clinic will not only have the ordinary medical equipment of any small health clinic, but it will also have some specialised equipment like an auto-analyser: this will help to determine the correct therapy for each young patient and to reduce the lengthy waits that had to be faced at the local hospitals. The clinic will also have a broadband connection so that it will be possible to make request on-line consultations with specialists abroad. It will also be  equipped for basic dentistry.

At first the clinic will only be open for the children of the AINA village in order to treat their acquired immunodeficiency syndromes; later on the clinic will open to the local population.
